Backcountry-Ready Rentals for Your Tour
Rentals are available exclusively to guests booked on one of our backcountry tours — we don’t run a standalone rental shop, but we keep a solid fleet of touring skis and splitboards on hand so you don’t need to sort your own before you arrive.
We highly recommend bringing your own ski or snowboard boots if you can. Fit matters more for touring than almost anything else, and our boot sizing is limited. Everything else — skis, splitboards, skins, packs, and safety gear — we’ve got covered. Beacon, shovel, and probe are included free with every tour.
A Quick Note on Boots
Boot fit makes or breaks a day of touring, and it’s the one thing we can’t perfectly guarantee off the shelf. We do rent ski and snowboard boots (¥2,500/person/day) if you can’t bring your own — just know we’d rather see you in boots you already trust.

Rental FAQs
Do I need touring gear if I’m booking a lift-access tour?
Yes — depending on conditions, we may need to do some short touring to find the best snow. A short hike is sometimes the best way to get the goods.
Do your ski bindings fit any boots?
Yes — our bindings fit both tech boots and standard alpine boots, and we stock a range of sizes. Just let us know your boot sole length (BSL) when you book so we can fit you correctly.
I have a non-guided gap day where I’ll ride on my own — can I keep the equipment?
Yes — as long as the gap is no more than 2 days, you’re welcome to hold onto your gear.
When can I pick up my gear?
Either the evening before your first rental day, between 5–7pm (recommended), or on the morning of your tour.
What is boot sole length (BSL), and where do I find it?
BSL is the length of your ski boot’s sole, measured in millimetres from toe to heel — it’s what our techs use to set up your bindings correctly. It’s usually stamped on the boot itself, near the sole, as a 3-digit number.
We need your BSL ahead of time to allocate the right skis for your rental, but we’ll still need your actual boots at the shop on the day to adjust the bindings properly.
See this BSL size guide (reference, opens in a new tab) for photos and more detail.
Can I use my two-way radio from overseas in Japan?
Yes and no. Japan does permit low-power handheld radios, but the frequencies available for public use are different from most other countries. In practice, most radios purchased overseas won’t meet Japan’s radio standards, so they generally can’t be used here legally.
See this guide to two-way radios in the backcountry (reference, opens in a new tab) for more detail.
What to wear!
Layering is the most important technique for keeping warm during winter in the mountains. It is best if you have mutliple layers that are easily removed or added to. When you start walking you will get very warm so less layers are good, but when you stop you will become cold very quickly so the ability to add more layers is a must.
