Avalanche Skills Training 2 + Managing Avalanche Terrain

AST 2 + MAT is where terrain judgement stops being a feeling and starts being a repeatable process. It builds directly on AST 1, running on the same Avalanche Canada curriculum, and takes you from following a plan to building one.

Over five days — one classroom day and four in the field — you’ll work through advanced routefinding, the ATES technical model for rating terrain yourself, using the Avaluator as a filtering tool rather than a checklist, and running a proficient companion rescue under pressure, not just a textbook one.

This is a genuine step up from AST 1, not a repeat of it with more field days bolted on.

Prerequisites

Completion of AST 1 (or equivalent) is required before enrolling.
